Minutes of Maxton 21 Meeting held on Tuesday 18th August 2015

Present: Jimmy, Charlie, Priscilla, Tom, Elvira, Kim, Eileen.

Apologies: Douglas, Geoff, Rhona, Isobel.

Previous Minutes:
The minutes of the meeting of Tuesday 9th June were agreed to be correct.

Treasurer’s Report:
In the absence of Isobel, Tom presented the summary of accounts. The total in the bank is £8154.37 (of which £1022.51 in in the Charity Account).

Past Events:
Duck Race – a fun day with youngsters from the families being very involved. £96 was raised for the Charity. Thanks to Geoff and Rhona for arranging everything and to Tom for providing the BBQ at the Hall. BYO food and drink worked well. Our two link people with the 2015 Charity, BSARU, were present.

Future Events:
Maxton Meets returns in September and has 6 meetings, as before, in Maxton Village Hall at 7.30pm. Admission £1.50.
September 14: Maxton Meets Chris Bowles, ‘What We Remember and What We Forget’
An illustrated talk on memory in the local archaeological landscape.
October 12: Maxton Meets Felicity Bristow, ‘Inclusion, Engagement and Contemporary Art’
An illustrated talk on her experience as ‘Artist in Residence’ with Tweeddale Youth Action, an organisation that offers young people in Tweeddale a safe alternative to street corners.
November 9: Maxton Meets Mark Douglas, ‘The Built Heritage of the Scottish Borders’
An illustrated talk on the Built Heritage of the Borders with a particular focus on Maxton and the surrounding area.

February 8

Charlie to distribute posters for the first meeting.
Priscilla and Eileen will set up and do the teas for the first evening.

Saturday October 24th Pub Night.
Tom volunteered to do planning. Report back at next meeting with games ideas etc.
Method of catering to be decided upon.

Carol Singing December 20th – usual arrangements.

Hall Report:
Outside door being painted by SBC.
Kim raised the problem with attaching notices with regard to Election Day Rules. Suggested pinboarding in entrance below the coathooks. Charlie will look into this.

Digital Projector.
Priscilla suggested we look into the possibility of our purchasing a Digital Projector for use by speakers, at events etc. Tom will do some research and come back with suggestions.

Web Site:
Guestbook entry from Rutherfords.

Neighbourhood Watch:
Large number of notices from Statutory bodies – now being more selective regarding entries onto website.

Still trying to arranged the visit of Dave and Joe.
