Minutes of Maxton 21 Meeting held on Monday 4th November 2013

Previous Minutes:
Accepted as an accurate minute of the meeting held on 16th September 2013

Treasurer’s Report:
Only outgoings were fuel bill payments, and only income was from the Charity Dance.
It was agreed that a three year fixed rate offer for electricity would be accepted.
Bank balance stands at £5916.46.
Charity at £719.40 (+£231 on line and £57.75 Gift Aid)

Past Events:
Charity Dance: very successful with £260 raised. Positive comments from the dancers on the excellent condition of the floor. Thanks to Jimmy and Janet and all concerned.

Future Events:
Sunday 15th December – Parish Get-together

Festive Get-together for Maxton Parish Residents.
Maxton Village Hall at 3pm. Festive cheer and nibbles. BYO.
All ages welcome. Silver collection.
(Shortbread – Elvira, Stollen – Isobel, Traybake – Janet, Chipolatas on sticks – Priscilla, Mince Pies – Eileen, Nuts & Crisps – Charlie)

Sunday 22nd December – Carol Singing
Meet in Car Park at 6.30pm.
Bring torch or lantern. Carol sheets provided. Clothing appropriate to weather and occasion.
Collection going to Maxton 21 "Charity for 2013 - The Special Baby Unit at Borders General Hospital”

Hogmanay 31st December – Hogmanay Ceilidh
Maxton Village Hall
7.30pm for 8pm Light supper. BYO.
Tickets £5 from Isobel – booking essential (01835 822559)

Burns Supper – because 25th January is a Saturday, it was decided to try to arrange the event for 1st February when speakers and entertainers might be more available. Charlie to contact Derek Inglis re entertainment.

Hall Report:
Speakers have now been replaced. Need for us to try out – Tom will do that.
Cement work round the flue has been replaced.
Leak at the join between the extension roof and the main building has been repaired.
Jimmy & Janet attended the CBAVH meeting. It was suggested that all halls should charge the same for General Elections viz £250. Grant money still available. Priscilla suggested replacement of the jugs for coffee and tea.
Still a lack of clarity regarding SBC’s use of the hall for training purposes. Eileen to get the person responsible to contact Jimmy.
Details of Hall charges have been posted in the Hall.
Tom asked us to consider having a member of the community trained in PAT testing. A City and Guilds Course is available at £200.
Janet suggested that a larger mat be purchsed for the vestibule. Agreed, and she will source.
Hall usage is increasing with the new Firefly Pre-School Dance starting on Tuesdays.
With the St Boswells Hall due to be closed for an extended period, any enquiries regarding the use of the Maxton Hall should be referred to Jimmy in the first instance.

Web Site:
Nothing to report – all working well

Neighbourhood Watch:
Report of Police activity in response to a call regarding sound of breaking glass. Nothing found.

Any Other Business:
Prize-winning Poster

A framed copy of the prize winning poster entered into the Edinburgh Fringe Competition by Iona Wishart, a talented 5 year old from the village, has been given to the Hall. The Secretary will write to thank Iona for the thoughtful gift.

Parish Christmas Card
A draft copy was shown to the meeting and approved. Thanks to Felicity for her support.
It will be delivered to every house in the parish along with the Church Newsletter at the end of the month.

The next meeting of Maxton 21 will be held in Maxton Village Hall at 7.30pm on Monday 13th January 2014.
