Maxton Burns Supper 2012

Saturday 21st January saw Maxton Village Hall with a full complement for the Annual Burns Supper.
The evening started with Elvira saying the Selkirk Grace. After the soup, Jimmy brought the Haggis to the table, where it was addressed by Thomson.
The Haggis, neeps and tatties were soon demolished, and tea or coffee with cheese and biscuits filled the few spaces left.
Tom made the toast to "The Immortal Memory", after which the first of the community singing took place. Mike then gave the "Toast to the Lasses" and Wendy the response.
More community singing was followed by the Presentation of the cheque to the Maxton 21 "Charity for 2011"
Then followed the section of the evening given over to Derek Inglis (from the Border Holiday Group) very ably supported by Joyce Tinlin and Stuart Anderson.
When Derek offered his services for the Maxton Burns Supper last summer, little did we realise that we were to get three superb performers: an actor who could recite 'Tam 0'Shanter' in 3D and wide screen and Holy Willie's Prayer in night attire, a lady singer with a magical voice and an accordionist and singer who stirred the soul.
It was a night to remember.
Our thanks go to all who were involved in the preparations and all who took part and who made the evening a real success.
