Minutes of Maxton 21 Meeting held on Tuesday 10th January 2012

Previous Minutes:
The minutes of the meeting of Monday 7th November were accepted as an accurate record.

Treasurer’s Report:
In the absence of the Treasurer, Tom gave the meeting the up-to-date summary and the statement of accounts for 2011 which is now closed. The Treasurer has been asked to pass the accounts to the auditor, to have them approved in time for the AGM.
The Charity total for 2011 is £724.72 which will be handed over to Borders Holiday Group “Jumbulance” at the Burns Supper.
The current balance in the Hall account is £8371.16.

Past Events:
Parish Get Together: good turn out and pleased to get the new members of the community to come along with their children.
Carol Singing: excellent turn out with 4 from St Boswells included. Collection raised £117.72 for Maxton 21 Charity for 2011 “Jumbulance”.
Hogmanay Ceilidh: a very enjoyable evening. Numbers again low. More detail to be given in early adverts for next year’s event.
Maxton met Jake Harvey: first class talk very well attended.

Future Events:
Burns Supper: Saturday 21st January. Arrangements for the evening finalised. Set up on Friday evening 7pm.
22 currently booked, but would be better if there were more people there.
List to be closed on Monday 16th.
Gaelic in the Borders Event: Friday 10th February. Open ceilidh.
Maxton Meets Rowley Duncan: Monday 13th February. “The Border Abbeys”.
Maxton Meets Kate Warner: Monday 12th March. “Gardening for Wildlife”.
Annual General Meeting: Monday 19th March. AGM of Maxton 21 and Maxton Neighbourhood Watch Scheme. Maxton Village Hall at 7.30pm.
Coffee Morning and Plant Sale for Maxton Hall Funds: Saturday 19th May.
Provisional date for Strawberry Tea: Saturday 14th July

Hall Report:
Jimmy is continuing with the painting of the kitchen. Thanks to him.
Water heating still not right – contractor aware.
Awaiting the removal of overflow pipe and reslating of part of roof over ante-room. Plaster and paintwork to be repaired. Still awaiting the painting of the extension ceiling.
Concern over dampness coming in below the window in the ladies’ toilets.
Saga of water bills continues.

Web Site:
New section added to home page with useful information and links to Neighbourhood Watch items of interest. Reports from Police and Community Wardens.

Neighbourhood Watch:
Nothing further reported on the three housebreakings. No other matters of concern.

Christmas Greetings from Dave, Joe and Bill, plus latest “Ton Talk”.

Any Other Business:
Charity for 2012. It was decided that the “Maxton 21 Charity for 2012” should be The Margaret Kerr Unit at the Borders General Hospital. A link will be put on the website so that details of the proposals and plans for the Palliative Care Unit can be viewed.
Thanks to Bristow Yuill for designing, printing and sponsoring the Christmas Greetings and Information Card which went to all households in the Parish.

The next meeting of Maxton 21 will be held on Monday 20th February in Maxton Village Hall at 7.30pm.
