Minutes of Maxton 21 Meeting held on Tuesday 11th August 2009

The minutes of the last meeting were approved.
The funds presently stand at £6118.72.
Maxton Homecoming Sunday Sunday 23rd August.
Plans for this event were finalised, with setting up on Saturday morning at 9am.
Hall open from 9am on the day.
Tea/Coffee all day, Soup and Crusty Bread 1pm till 2pm.
Entry by donation to BANG.
Church Service at 11.45 in Maxton Kirk.
In the Hall, on the day, will be:
Powerpoint of old pics on stage.
HMS MAXTON - display of photographs and excerpts from ship's log.
WW1 - Graveyard information for Maxton Parish and WW1 Trench layout with material from the battlefields
Maxton Parish Metal Detectorist Finds and Maps.
East End Farm DVD film from 1960's.
Field Walking Finds at Rutherford.
John Davidson The Maxton Poet and examples of his poetry
Newly found photographs
Census and Electoral Roll information for Maxton Parish.
BFHS Graveyard Inscriptions for Maxton Churchyard (Old).

Maxton Meets 2009-10 Series of talks.
All six talks are agreed with the speakers:
Monday September 14th: Maxton Meets Ruaraidh Hamilton
Monday October 12th: Maxton Meets Ian Hird
Monday November 9th: Maxton Meets: Lothian & Borders Fire Brigade
Monday January 11th: Maxton Meets John Rogerson
Monday February 8th: Maxton Meets Michael Shallis
Monday March 8th: Maxton Meets Douglas Methven
A full detailed programme will be available at the first talk.
There will be no charge for the Maxton Meets: Lothian & Borders Fire Brigade as this is part of the fire safety exercise previously agreed with the Fire Service.
St Andrew's Night Friday 27th November.
As Gaelic in the Borders is holding a Cθilidh in Maxton on that evening, it was agreed that Priscilla should consult with them regarding a joint celebration.
October Coffee Morning for Hall Funds
To avoid clashing of dates with St Boswells Coffee Mornings, it was agreed that the date be flexible at present, but with us favouring Saturday 31st. Priscilla to check.
Parish Festive Get-together Sunday 6th December
After discussion, it was agreed that we continue this traditional Advent Celebration as there are many newcomers to the Parish who might be interested in coming along and meeting one another in a friendly social setting. Afternoon event. Ideas, please.
Carol Singing - Sunday 20th December
The Annual Charity Carol Singing will be held this evening. Meet at the Car Park next to the Village Hall at 6.30pm. Bring torch or lantern. Carol sheets provided. Clothing appropriate to your mood and the weather. All monies to "Maxton 21 Charity for 2009" Borders Additional Needs Group.
Hogmanay 31st December
Thinking caps on, please! Ideas needed.
Need for replacement table covers. Priscilla to source material and purchase from Hall funds.
Bookings and Hall use continue to rise with regular meetings of various groups.
All sponsors have continued and paid. July was the second highest number of visitors since we began - over 42000.
No activities causing concern.
Dave and Joe with Heather and Liz were here in July to plan their input to the Homecoming Sunday. All arranged and Joe will be present on the day.
Bill Slater, who presented a picture of the ship to Maxton Kirk and to Rev Bruce Neill will also be here as a visitor on the day.

Letter from SBC informing us that our Naturewatch Survey material, which was held in the Biological Record Centre at Harestanes was to be transferred to the Lothian Wildlife Information Centre at Vogrie, as the Borders Centre is being closed.
Date of Next Meeting
The next meeting of Maxton 21 will be held on Tuesday 6th October in Maxton Village Hall at 7.30pm.
Late Change Meeting has been moved to Tuesday 13th October due to bookings for hall.
