Maxton 21 Charity for 2009 is BANG!

Borders Additional Needs Group or BANG was last evening selected to be the Maxton 21 Charity of the Year.

BANG is a group set up by parents of children with special needs to support families with additional, complex or rare conditions.

At BANG parents are able to support each other and encourage their children to live up to their potential. We always look at children as individuals first and then consider their special needs. BANG is there to offer support and information and to let parents know that although having a child with special or additional needs is very hard, it is also rewarding.

The group organises visits, outings and parties and is looking at ways of providing short breaks for the families.

The group meets monthly in Tweedbank Community Centre.

Objectives of Bang
Meet up once a month
Support parents, siblings and other family members
Bring parents together and share experiences
Create a "Buddy" contact for parents experiencing difficult times
Provide access to local resources and liaise with other organisations
Expand parents' knowledge of local and national services
Organise outings for children and families
produce a booklet for parents with contact details of where they can go for support
Develop links with other voluntary organisations to raise awareness of parents' and children's needs.

Further details of the work of BANG can be obtained from:
the Group's Secretary - Nicola Corbett on 01896 756893
