Previous Minutes
As the Minutes of the AGM and the last meeting had not been circulated, they could not be approved.
Amendments to the AGM Minute were made at the meeting and the amended Minute will be circulated.
Treasurer's Report
The balance stands at £6485.28.
The account for gas is still not accurate and the Treasurer is still awaiting their bill for the past year.
Past Events
· St Patrick's Night Ceilidh went very well and everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks to all who worked to make the evening the success it was.
Future Events
· Real Time Concert. Concern over the lack of interest so far, but the event has been widely advertised and there is still plenty of time for people to come forward.
· Coffee Morning and Plant Sale on Saturday 24th May at 10am. Set up on Friday evening at 7pm. Isobel to arrange float, Paul to do posters, Priscilla to purchase coffee, milk, sugar etc as necessary, and duties on the day allocated.
· Maxton Meets Programme for Next Winter. Charlie to call a meeting in May to start the process. Suggestions for speakers welcome.
· Midsummer BBQ. Saturday 21st June at 7pm. By ticket only, £5 (adult), £4 (children). BYOB. Notices to all households in the parish with a closing date for replies to allow accurate purchasing of provisions.
Hall Report
· Still awaiting completion of the extra work in the toilet and corridor areas. Agreed that a finishing of date of 1st June be fixed with contractor.
· As a result of the recent illegal entry, security must be made a priority.
· The Hall Committee has approved a new set of Charges for Bookings. These are on the Website.
· Estimates have been received for supplying and laying the slabs from the ramp to the existing pathway. Paint for the corridor area has also been costed. An application for a grant for these improvements will be made to The Bridge, with Maxton 21 providing £100 and the labour for the painting.
· Jimmy and Thomson will attend the meeting of The Bridge on 11th June.
· As suggested at the last meetingof Maxton 21, the Hall Committee approved the "Deep Clean" of the Hall twice a year by a professional cleaning group. The first clean will follow completion of the internal works.
Web Site
· Charlie reported that seven of the eight existing sponsors had continued their support and that he was currently finalising the arrangements for a replacement sponsor who has agreed to come on board. The financial costs for the new sponsor will be identical to those offered to the existing sponsors when the site was set up and the facilities offered will also be the same.
· Traffic on the site was as expected at this time of year.
Neighbourhood Watch
· The Area Co-ordinator had received a letter from Lothian and Borders Police regarding bogus workmen who had been at "work" in Earlston and Jedburgh – on the same day. Those at risk had been reminded of security and sensible procedure – "no stranger enters your home" – tho' the risk was at least a week old by the time the letter arrived.
HMS Maxton
· The new edition of Ton Talk was on the noticeboard. According to the Magazine the Link Person for our village was still Roy Edwards, not Dave Wilkinson and Joe Eglinton. This is obviously an error.
Any Other Business
· Maxton 21 Charity for 2008. Charlie suggested that we consider "The Princess Royal Trust Border Carers Centre Young Carers Project". He had previously believed that this was part of a National Charity and was funded centrally and therefore outwith the criteria for our group's support. He had been informed that this was not the case, and that the group used the National Organisation for Advertising, Insurance etc but was all funded through local donations. The meeting supported this suggestion and Charlie will contact the local Manager.
Date of Next Meeting
· The next meeting of Maxton 21 will be held on Monday 9th June in Maxton Village Hall at 7.30pm.
