Congratulations to our own George Riddell of Maxton East End Farm who last week was presented with the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland's Gold Medal for 50 years service to farming, all of them on Maxton East End.
The story goes that he was given a job for two weeks, working with his father, who was on the farm, and 50 years later he is still there! He really wanted to be an engineer, but he has successfully managed to "combine" farming with his interest in farm machinery, mainly vintage.
The presentations were made at a luncheon in Springwood Hall by the Duke of Roxburghe, President of the Border Union Agricultural Society.
