Past Events
Burns Night
A very enjoyable evening, and much appreciated by our Swedish guests. Elvira has received a thank you letter from the Minister saying how much they had enjoyed the night.
Thanks to everyone who were involved in the evening from the setting up, the shopping, cooking, recitations and for clearing up afterwards.

Maxton Meets
On the 12 February Maxton met Alec McCue who discussed Border war memorials. A rather disappointing turnout of nine people.

Future Events
Maxton Meets – 12th March 2007 *
The final talk of this season’s talks will be by Julian Goodacre who will be discussing Border pipes. Julian is based in Peebles and is a making of various types of pipes.

Carlenjig & Fiddler’s Leap – 24th March 2007 *
Tickets and posters have been distributed. Tom has taken 40 tickets for the folk at Denholm to sell, Paul & Ron will have 20 each in case of phone calls. Paul will arrange to get posters put up. Charlie will take some posters to put up in Kelso. There will be a raffle on the night for our charity of 2007. Tea & coffee will also be available. The event is BYOB.

* Both of these events will be subject to the hall being available. Jimmy has had no indication yet as to when the builders will be coming in to start work on the toilets and ramp. He will chase them up tomorrow.

Proposed future events
The following events were proposed for this year. Dates and times to be confirmed.

St. Patrick’s night Saturday 17th March
Coffee Morning & Plant sale Saturday 26th May
Puppet Show June
Food Evening (Italian) 16th June
Parish BBQ 7th July
Coffee Morning 22nd September

Maxton 21 Charity for 2007
Ron proposed the BORDERS ASPERGERS and AUTISM GROUP SUPPORT as the Maxton 21 charity for 2007. This was agreed by the group. Paul will contact the organisers to get their go-ahead.

Hogmanay 2007
Ron asked whether it would be possible to include ‘turns’ or singing at this year’s Hogmanay to intersperse with the dancing. There were no objections to this idea and it was thought that this would bring more of the Ceilidh spirit to the evening.

Maxton Meets 2007/8
A meeting will need to be arranged to get idea for the 2007/8 season of Maxton Meets talks starting in September. Paul will arrange for a meeting to be held.

Hall Report
Maxton 21 has received a grant from the Federation of Village Halls for £600.00 which will be used to buy new tables and serving jugs.

Web Site
The statistics for web site hits has been recompiled. Charlie will be approaching our sponsors in March to see if they will continue to support us.

Neighbourhood Watch
There is a new system in place with Neighbourhood Watch with a new coordinator having been appointed in Edinburgh. This is new system does seem to be working well.
A report to Crimestoppers about untaxed vehicles was met with the reply that it is not a police matter; it is a matter for the DVLA. Charlie has reported this matter to the Neighbourhood watch co-ordinator in Edinburgh and is awaiting a response.

HMS Maxton
Charlie brought along the material collated by Joe to the last Maxton Meets talk. There was an article in the last Ton Talk about Dave & Joe’s last trip to Maxton.

Any Other Business

· AGM – The AGM for Maxton 21 will be held on Monday 19th March 2007 at 7:30 pm in the Village hall. An alternative venue will be sought should the hall be out of action due to building work being carried out.
· Rosi confirmed that she would not be standing for Secretary this coming year.
· Rosi asked if there would be any interest in a visit to Sweden at some point. Douglas thought this was a good idea perhaps for 2008 if there was enough interest.

The meeting was closed at 8:30pm

Addendum to minutes

Since the compilation of this set of minutes, we have been informed that the refurbishment of the hall toilets and the installation of the disabled access ramp will take place during March and possibly part of April 2007. The following events have had to be cancelled as a result of these works:

Monday 12th March 2007 Maxton Meets Julian Goodacre

Saturday 17th March 2007 St Patrick’s Night evening

Saturday 24th March 2007 Carlenjig & Fiddlers Leap concert

The Maxton 21 AGM due to take place on the 19th March may be switched to Maxton Kirk, but we await confirmation on this.
